"While He was still speaking, they came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?” But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, “Do not be afraid any longer, only believe.” And He allowed no one to accompany Him, except Peter and James and John the brother of James. They came to the house of the synagogue official; and He saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing. And entering in, He said to them, “Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep.” They began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He took along the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and entered the room where the child was. Taking the child by the hand, He said to her, “Talitha kum!” (which translated means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). Immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded. And He gave them strict orders that no one should know about this, and He said that something should be given her to eat." Mark 5:35-43.
"O Lord, do not rebuke me in Your anger, Nor chasten me in Your wrath. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am pining away; Heal me, O Lord, for my bones are dismayed. And my soul is greatly dismayed; But You, O Lord—how long? Return, O Lord, rescue my soul; Save me because of Your lovingkindness. For there is no mention of You in death; In Sheol who will give You thanks? I am weary with my sighing; Every night I make my bed swim, I dissolve my couch with my tears. My eye has wasted away with grief; It has become old because of all my adversaries. Depart from me, all you who do iniquity, For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. The Lord has heard my supplication, The Lord receives my prayer. All my enemies will be ashamed and greatly dismayed; They shall turn back, they will suddenly be ashamed." Psalms 6:1-10.
"Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” John 11:40.
"but just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6.
"These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.
We easily run to our own understanding concerning life.
We decide if something is impossible before we consider bringing it to the Lord Jesus Christ first.
We choose to accept defeat before the Spirit says His work in our situation is done.
We believe our physical eyes before we seek to believe our spiritual eyes.
You can't learn what you are capable of in your walk with Jesus unless you study and train with the Spirit of God within you.
You cannot know what is spiritually discerned unless you are in class to be taught first.
You cannot understand that God doesn't have problems He has situations that more often than not are crafted with the end result being a new level of understanding in ways of the Lord and our growth in Christ.
I have been reading this book by Dr. Charles Stanley about adversity. You think there was some adversity in the family of that little girl? In the story that preceded what you read was that of a woman's problem that went on for what felt like decades and her faith in Jesus caused her to be healed. She believed that if she could but just touch His clothes she would be made well. That His holiness extended to His very garments.
Jesus's healings as well as His confrontations with the Pharisees and Sadducees was dealing with people in various forms of adversity. From the verbal to the physical.
If you missed it, many of those we read about (and by the Apostle John's statement there was a whole lot more) were way older than Jesus when He healed them.
Consider this: How many had Jesus met already when He was younger and His ministry had not yet started?
Do you have this mistaken notion that God doesn't see your dilemma? That by some unexplained reason He isn't interested in what you are going through? Or maybe He does see and is choosing to ignore your situation? Have you already quit because you prayed and nothing immediately happened? You gave up because you thought the situation was hopeless and grim?
Guess what...read your Bible...you aren't alone in these thoughts.
Someone once said that God is an on time God. Never late, never early. We read days ago of the statement that God does nothing but by the prayers of His people.
So you prayed and prayed but nothing happened. Not in your timing it didn't. Keep praying. Don't believe your eyes. Believe your Lord instead.
I was told by the Spirit not to forget 4 specific prayers that I prayed this last week and how Jesus had answered them.
Write down your answers to your pleas and prayers to Jesus. You can look on these with hope when the next adversity begins.
Why have these adversities? Why put you through them?
Jesus loved us enough to save us.
Jesus loves us enough not to leave us as He found us.
We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works that we might walk in them.
We are a work in progress.
Consider a woodworker. Aka a Carpenter. Jesus was a Carpenter.
You may sit there by this Carpenter watching him take up and put down various tools to turn a log into a fine piece of furniture. You are amazed by his skill in wielding those tools.
Now consider the truth of what you are seeing. That log was going through what seemed like endless adversity until the Carpenter was finished. Under all the bark and decay this Carpenter discovered the true hidden beauty that would never have been found until the work was completed.
We are never promised a life free from adversity. Each time we face something it will last only as long as is necessary for God to accomplish His purpose in our lives.
If you watched the old show M*A*S*H...you probably missed it.
Sometimes the couldn't operate on a soldiers problem all at once. They had to wait for parts of the body to heal before going further.
Same goes with the removal of sins effects on us. The sins we haven't yet seen as sins that we just accepted as part of life. The crippling debilitating effects that we have never considered as something that God would need to do something about.
Nothing is over unless Jesus says it's over. Nothing is done until He says it's done. Nothing is impossible until He says no to it.
My Dear Reader we are His workmanship. We are the clay and not the Potter. We are complex human beings with a wide diverse range of spiritual maladies. To keep His promise to not leave you as He found you...the range of what must be done is vast.
"Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." James 1:2-8.
Essentially...be glad that sometimes His answer is no. Be glad that He loves you enough not to leave you as He found you.
I have many physical issues. Yet in Christ I have only my own doubts that get in the way of God's work in my life.
Jesus isn't done with us yet.
If you are alive and breathing He has work to accomplish in your life.
In the parable of the Good Samaritan...the good Samaritan found that person and bandaged the wounds. Picked the guy up and took him to a place to rest and heal. Promised to return and settle things for whatever the cost.
Jesus isn't done with you yet.
He throws the towel back at you and tells you to wipe your face and keep going. The road ahead might look less than desirable but He's staying with you.
Remember His answers to your pleas. He never takes a deaf ear to the prayers of His people. Daniel was told that there was a battle going on concerning him.
"Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance, persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me! Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted." 2 Timothy 3:10-12.
Persecuted...have tribulations...problems...all the same.
Keep the faith. Jesus is the promise keeper. He is the Great Physician. He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He is our risen Lord and Savior. He said that we are in His hands.
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” John 10:27-30.
Hang in there. Jesus is still working on making us more like Christ.
Keep praying. Keep asking.
"And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7.
