We ARE to be Lead, We are NOT to Lead
by David Brenneman "Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day." Psalms 25:5
In our world, and it doesn't take much in looking at the topics on LinkedIn, pushes and pushes people towards the idea that everyone ought to aspire to becoming a leader.
What isn't considered is that everyone isn't meant to be one. What also isn't considered is in the Christian life we are not leaders. Jesus is through the Spirit of God. We are His sheep, His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works that we might walk in them. We are in training to be transformed from our lowly estate into the likeness of Jesus Christ.
There are those indeed who lead in the local church, however, those special few are called of God for that particular purpose, the rest of us are the sheep.
Jesus said His sheep hear His voice.
My Dear Reader, are you listening for His voice or are you doing all the talking? Does Jesus get a word in edge wise in conversations with you? Are you so busy telling Him your list of wants and desires that you forgot your position in Christ?
Jesus is to be the Leader of the Christian life. Savior of our souls.
What comes to mind is a part of some movie of no great importance where a woman dressed with expensive tastes is going on and on about her wishes for servant's to be doing and they're hastily written them down, acknowledging every single one.
How often are we trying to tell the Teacher of how to live life, how we are going to live life, in spite of the lessons presented?
Do you do that with the Spirit? He tries to teach you and you, in your actual smugness, laugh it off, put up a hand as if to stop Him and then go into your own tirade on how it needs to be?
We're taught all the live long day to pursue higher education. To seek out ways to accumulate money and possessions. If you're so inclined, to toss a few breadcrumbs of your prosperity to others. You know, to make you feel better about yourself. Step on who you have to in order to gain success. Think about others later when you have time.
These are not the ways taught by the Spirit. These are not the attributes of a Child of God, a sheep of the Savior.
If, indeed, in your world, you are brought to a position of leadership, this isn't something to ever take lightly. It's not to empower you over others, it's for you to enable others. Lording a position over others is how Satan's perspective teaches people to be.
Are you making any strides in intentional listening to the Spirit?
Are you making any strides in intentional learning from God's Word?
Are the things of God that are still as important today as it was 2,000 plus years ago, important to you now?
Have you at all considered that the Father’s business that Jesus was engaged in, isn't finished?
Does your behavior show a life being transformed by the Spirit?
Are you removing those things that are causing you to not exhibit a Christ-like attitude?
Lots of questions but then again, perhaps many of you have never considered them.
Perhaps many of you aren't interested.
Perhaps some of you aren't considering what all this world has offered that you have eagerly embraced is actually in direct opposition to what the Spirit teaches.
Are your words cutting people down? It matters absolutely not the context, are you cutting people down? Does the Word of God allow exceptions in light of special circumstances? This is but one example...and one that I have been greatly convicted of.
Our world loves to create exceptions to permit ungodly behavior.
Do you join in that by way of what you allow in your life?
I do not join others in trash talk because there's no Godly excuse to do so. My sarcasm is a tightrope on its own to control.
We are to be disciples of Jesus Christ. What He taught disciples to do we are to be doing. We are to be examples to other generations. To perpetuate the teachings of the Spirit of God to others. Throughout the Bible its taught to keep remembering what we have learned from God.
We are going to either lead or get out of the way and follow Jesus. What are you doing? What will you be doing going forward? We aren't going to receive a well done from Jesus for all we did for ourselves. We will receive a well done for all we did in our lives for Christ.
His sheep hear His voice...and are doers of the Word.
