More? Yes, More Please
by David Brenneman
More about Jesus would I know,
More of His grace to others show;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.
More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.
More about Jesus let me learn,
More of His holy will discern;
Spirit of God, my teacher be,
Showing the things of Christ to me.
More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.
More about Jesus in His Word,
Holding communion with my Lord;
Hearing His voice in ev'ry line,
Making each faithful saying mine.
More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.
More about Jesus on His throne,
Riches in glory all His own;
More of His kingdom's sure increase;
More of His coming, Prince of peace.
More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.
"More About Jesus"
Author: E. E. Hewitt (1887)
Do you ever have the notion to ask what others in the Bible have asked of Jesus? That He would show you more about Himself? If not, why not?
Of all the requests we can possibly make, being shown more, to learn more, about Jesus is worth more than any degree, diploma, or any other achievement found in human history.
After the dust settles, after the Rapture of the Church, the 7 Year Great Tribulation, and the 1,000 year reign of Jesus Christ here on Earth, our future in the body of Christ is to spend eternity getting to know Him more. So why not start now?
The more you learn now, the better your growth potential in Christ. The more you are in tune with the Spirit, the more effective you will be in the body of Christ to serve God.
As I was reading of some of Dr. Charles Stanley's comments to a passage last night, our lives were nailed to that cross with Jesus. Our lives are not our own. The Spirit would love to teach you more and more about Jesus.
The evidence of your desires fall into either the fruits of self or fruits of the Spirit.
"Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." Galatians 5:19-24
Fruits of self are what it is saying are fruits of the flesh. It's why we must be truly careful of what we feed our souls. It's why we ought to be careful of what we listen to, what we read, who we hang out with. Who we place above others.
You read in Deuteronomy you find most everything you need to understand about what will trip you up and what will prosper you in walking with Jesus. What Moses was speaking towards with the Children of Israel was willing obedience. We aren't under the Law, but under grace. We don't need to pursue obeying the Law of the Old Testament. But notice indeed that structure of what Moses said...their thoughts and deeds were to be centered around the Lord Jesus. They were to be focused on Him.
"Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31.
That simple verse seems to sum up a great deal of things. Satan's and your sin nature's response to that verse is "Geesh! He doesn't want me to have any fun! He doesn't want me to enjoy life at all!"
Reading in Deuteronomy, you can actually see that peace and rest was what they would have received from their obedience to God's Word. Their needs in every way would have been met. Crops would have never failed. Their animals would never have problems. Life would indeed have been absolutely abundant.
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." John 10:10.
We only think we understand what would make us happy and content in our lives.
If indeed we are saved and have the Spirit of God within us, the Spirit searches our hearts. He knows everything about us. He knows every truth from every fiction about our thinking and thoughts we have. What we tell ourselves vs what He says we are. He knows and wants the very best for you and I.
Wouldn't you want more? I do. In Exodus 33, Moses was enthralled with what he'd seen so far about Jesus and cried out for Jesus to show him more. What Moses had seen so far was more than he had expected and it was so good that he had to ask for more.
Paul referred likely to himself, but he got introduced to Jesus and learned a lot. Living life as a Believer ought to was what we see taught throughout the rest of the books that were written of the New Testament after the Gospels.
Jesus said that after He leaves, He would send the Helper, who would teach us all things. Are you at all wanting to be taught?
More about Jesus would I know,
More of His grace to others show;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.
