Your Seasonings

Your Seasonings
by David Brenneman

Most people never consider that they carry seasonings with them wherever they go, but they do.

You carry seasonings with you wherever you go as well.  What you do with them determines whether you are lifting someone up or tearing them down.

If we continue in what we read in Colossians 3, that whatever we do ought to be done as unto the Lord Jesus, then our speech is included.

"Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself can example of those who believe." 1 Timothy 4:12.

"Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11.

"Let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but if there is any good word for edification according to the need of the moment, say that, so that it will give grace to those who hear." Ephesians 4:29.

"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." Matthew 5:16.

It ought to be clear that indeed our lives are not our own.  We do have work to do in Christ Jesus.  Our transformation is going to happen by way of the Spirit, it's on each of us as to how quickly and how slowly this happens.

Do you choose your words or do you just turn off that filter?

Consider the container that seasonings come in.  The lid typically has two sides that open. One for an unrestricted volume to leave the container, the other side is for measured amounts.  It's intentionally restrained.

Paul, in his admonishing of the saints, had repeatedly brought to mind to his audience his speech, love and conduct.  He reminded them of who it is they represent at all times.

In every country there are Ambassadors.
It matters not where that Ambassadors is, they represent their nation.  It does not matter what the occasion is, before they speak or do, they must remember the impact on the nation they represent.

In Christ the Bible says that we who are in Christ are Ambassadors for Jesus.  We are never "off the clock" any more than any official who is an Ambassador in our world today.

But how?

"Commit your works to the Lord
And your plans will be established." Proverbs 16:3.

"When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him." Proverbs 16:7.

"The wise in heart will be called understanding, And sweetness of speech increases persuasiveness." Proverbs 16:21.

Jesus is who we represent, regardless of how agonizing life may be.  Jesus said that if people hated Him they will hate us too.  Because He is and He will judge concerning sin and all unrighteousness.

Ambassadors, regardless of personal preference, must convey whatever their governments say.

In Christ, our hearts are supposed to be molded to the likeness of Jesus Christ.  Our thoughts being checked before they become a something more.

Our battles are not against flesh and blood.  Paul also said to take every thought captive to the glory of God.

"We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ," 2 Corinthians 10:5.

We are also...the body of Christ.
We are in it with a job to do.
We leave all judgment to Jesus.
We are to still make judgment calls concerning the fruits of others as well as examining our own fruits to see if they are of the Spirit or not.

Your seasonings must be from God.
Your seasonings must be in the right proportions. Not too much, not too little, or in some cases not used at all.

What is in your heart and mind are what will come out your mouth.  What are you putting in there in the first place?  Secular music, secular movies, videos? Secular speeches. Fantasy books and fiction?

Jesus has oh so much more prepared for you than you can ever imagine if only out hearts are set on Him.  More than we can ask or think.  But it's on each of us to put obedience to Jesus first.

For whatever reason that we aren't considering, life is going to try to get you to not season your thoughts or words. This is both our sin nature and that of others.  It's why we need the Word of God. To show us where to improve.  When to repent.

Consider who it is you represent today, even in the solitude of your own life.  Even by yourself you are still tied to your identity in Christ Jesus.  Representing Him well is where "Well done" comes from when we face Him in the near future.

Use your seasonings well.

What Master's You

What Master's You?
by David Brenneman

Not exactly a commonly thought of idea.
What has Mastery over your thoughts, your way of life?

Is it the teachings of the Spirit through the Word of God? Is it the elementary teachings of this world?  Do you mistakenly think it's you?

In Christ Jesus we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works that we might walk in them.  For the purpose that people see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.

This takes preparation on our part to lay aside everything that is an encumbrance to run the race set before us.  To run the race in such a way as to win the prize.

What are you doing?

What a simple question that the placement of emphasis on any one of those particular 4 words changes what is really being asked.

WHAT are you DOING?
What ARE you doing?

The question is not if someone is , but rather who, is dominant in your thoughts for this day. It's either going to be your own thoughts, feelings, understanding, or it's going to be that of the Spirit of God.

In Deuteronomy Moses, before the second generation of the Children of Israel were to enter the Promised land, preached a very strong and long sermon to them on writing down all the things that the Lord Jesus said were to be of utmost importance to them.  To go nowhere without those.  Adding the writings to their very garments.  Writing them on their homes.  Taking the Word of God wherever they went.  So that they might not sin against God.

We can read the rest of the Old Testament.  They didn't.  All the warnings of Moses, happened.

People in throughout the centuries like to write of alternative universes.  What a world this would have been had they obeyed.   But also too, because of their inability, they too proved the Word of God, the need for mankind to have a Savior, who is Christ Jesus.

To all...and not just any new generation...begin your day with Jesus.  Don't attempt a day without Him.  He is the Good Shepherd, the Great Shepherd.  He is the lover of your soul.  The One who watches over you.  We aren't to be independent sheep. Read again of the one sheep that went astray and of the Shepherd leaving the 99 to go find it.

God's people are to grow together in Christ.

God's people are to pursue what's important to Jesus as per the Word of God.

The reality of life is that it WILL be His will being done on Earth as it is in Heaven.  Every stroke written in the Bible will have its day.  Everything written will happen as written.

We either hinder our growth in Christ or we agree to it and grow that much more.

You may not see nor fully understand it but the truth is someone calls the shots in your life.  Someone is in the driver's seat. Someone's flying the plane.  Someone is the quarterback. Someone is...the question remains is is it you or Jesus?

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones. Proverbs 3:5-8.

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,  knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. Colossians 3:24-25

The hymn "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus"
Oh soul are you weary and troubled.  No light in the darkness you see.

Think about your thoughts.  Where do they go?  Are you leading them towards the Savior or are they leading you away?

What are you intentional about?  Are you one who compromises in regards to living life as God intended for you?  Preferring instead to make others happy rather than to obey Christ?  That, my Dear Reader, is the wrong approach to life.

Be intentional about living life as God desires for you and see what happens.  See what burdens are lifted.  See what comes about that could only be because you did what was right in the sight of God.  See mountains reduced to rubble.
See valley's raised up.  See the darkness flee at the mention of His Name.

Watch stress and strife wash away.

I often need reminders myself.   We live in an information saturated world.  Information overload so bad that it is too much for the brain to contain.  It overflows to devices we carry or use.

The more we turn our eyes to Our Savior, the less our brains get overworked.  The less our lives are complicated.

Stuff will not satisfy that cross shaped hole in your heart.  Things you do will not satisfy a yearning that is completely Spiritual in nature.  It isn't Snickers that satisfies, but the Spirit.

What will you do differently today?
What will you choose to change?

Start small if you must in reading the Bible.  Begin in Proverbs.  Add more as your appetite grows.  If you are intentional, it will grow.  Jesus said the Spirit will teach us all things.

Who is Lord of your life?  Is it really Jesus?
You must decide.

More? Yes, More Please

More? Yes, More Please
by David Brenneman

More about Jesus would I know,
More of His grace to others show;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.

More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.

More about Jesus let me learn,
More of His holy will discern;
Spirit of God, my teacher be,
Showing the things of Christ to me.

More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.

More about Jesus in His Word,
Holding communion with my Lord;
Hearing His voice in ev'ry line,
Making each faithful saying mine.

More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.

More about Jesus on His throne,
Riches in glory all His own;
More of His kingdom's sure increase;
More of His coming, Prince of peace.

More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.
"More About Jesus"
Author: E. E. Hewitt (1887)

Do you ever have the notion to ask what others in the Bible have asked of Jesus?  That He would show you more about Himself?  If not, why not?

Of all the requests we can possibly make, being shown more, to learn more, about Jesus is worth more than any degree, diploma, or any other achievement found in human history.

After the dust settles, after the Rapture of the Church, the 7 Year Great Tribulation, and the 1,000 year reign of Jesus Christ here on Earth, our future in the body of Christ is to spend eternity getting to know Him more.  So why not start now?

The more you learn now, the better your growth potential in Christ.  The more you are in tune with the Spirit, the more effective you will be in the body of Christ to serve God.

As I was reading of some of Dr. Charles Stanley's comments to a passage last night, our lives were nailed to that cross with Jesus. Our lives are not our own.  The Spirit would love to teach you more and more about Jesus.

The evidence of your desires fall into either the fruits of self or fruits of the Spirit.

"Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,  idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,  envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." Galatians 5:19-24

Fruits of self are what it is saying are fruits of the flesh.  It's why we must be truly careful of what we feed our souls.  It's why we ought to be careful of what we listen to, what we read, who we hang out with.  Who we place above others.

You read in Deuteronomy you find most everything you need to understand about what will trip you up and what will prosper you in walking with Jesus.  What Moses was speaking towards with the Children of Israel was willing obedience.  We aren't under the Law, but under grace.  We don't need to pursue obeying the Law of the Old Testament.  But notice indeed that structure of what Moses said...their thoughts and deeds were to be centered around the Lord Jesus. They were to be focused on Him.

"Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31.

That simple verse seems to sum up a great deal of things.   Satan's and your sin nature's response to that verse is "Geesh!  He doesn't want me to have any fun! He doesn't want me to enjoy life at all!"

Reading in Deuteronomy, you can actually see that peace and rest was what they would have received from their obedience to God's Word.  Their needs in every way would have been met.  Crops would have never failed. Their animals would never have problems.  Life would indeed have been absolutely abundant.

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." John 10:10.

We only think we understand what would make us happy and content in our lives.

If indeed we are saved and have the Spirit of God within us, the Spirit searches our hearts.  He knows everything about us.  He knows every truth from every fiction about our thinking and thoughts we have.  What we tell ourselves vs what He says we are.  He knows and wants the very best for you and I.

Wouldn't you want more?  I do.  In Exodus 33, Moses was enthralled with what he'd seen so far about Jesus and cried out for Jesus to show him more.  What Moses had seen so far was more than he had expected and it was so good that he had to ask for more.

Paul referred likely to himself, but he got introduced to Jesus and learned a lot.  Living life as a Believer ought to was what we see taught throughout the rest of the books that were written of the New Testament after the Gospels.

Jesus said that after He leaves, He would send the Helper, who would teach us all things.  Are you at all wanting to be taught?

More about Jesus would I know,
More of His grace to others show;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.

Your Reasons

Your Reasons
by David Brenneman

"But though He had performed so many signs before them, yet they were not believing in Him. This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet which he spoke: “Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” For this reason they could not believe, for Isaiah said again, “He has blinded their eyes and He hardened their heart, so that they would not see with their eyes and perceive with their heart, and be converted and I heal them.” These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory, and he spoke of Him. Nevertheless many even of the rulers believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God."
John 12:37‭-‬43 NASB1995

We will likely have a mix of joy and shame when we stand before Jesus someday.  All doubts, big and small, removed.  All variations of doctrines, philosophies, theologies corrected.  All of our choices we made, turning left when turning right was what we were to do and vice-versa.  All those moments when we spoke up as the Spirit directed and those times when silence should have prevailed.

So in this here and this now, why DO you do what you do?  What drives your choices?  Are you seeking the approval of God or of men?  Are titles that important to you?  Would you be the same person if you didn't have them?

The battlefield is not in this physical world, it's in your heart and mind.  Your life in Christ will have daily decisions for you to make on how you will live each day.   Will you seek God's help in living this day the way He would like you to, or will you just see how it goes and try to adjust to it all?

Does the sheep tell the shepherd where they will go and what they will do?   Think about that.

Jesus said His sheep hear His voice...and what?  Follow Him.  When Jesus describes the Good Shepherd, He describes Himself.   He tells of how He will, not would, go after even the 1 sheep that went astray.  The reality of will go after vs would go after is the immediacy of the action.

So many Believer's today are not realizing that Satan's trying every single method to silence them and their example before men and women.  He is pushing legislation in every way imaginable to keep people from living out their lives for Jesus Christ.  Because he knows the truth of God's word. That those who live their lives in such a way that people see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven...Satan will try to get you to follow suit!

He will use public embarrassment. He will use situations to get you to not stand your ground, to not stand firm.  When we suit up in the full armor of God, it comes at a price. We will get the attention of the enemy of God.

When we put popularity ahead of God we will eventually lose.

When the opinion of people matters more than what God has said...we will lose.

The road may look hard and arduous.
The road may look dark and ominous.

Jesus said to be of good cheer for He has overcome the world.

Look in the mirror.  When you look at what you did just yesterday alone...who did you serve?  You or Jesus?  Colossians 3:23-25 "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. For he who does wrong will receive the consequences of the wrong which he has done, and that without partiality."

Which do you want to hear when you stand before Jesus?  "Well done" or "Why did you?".

To take up our own cross and follow Him points us towards His will being done on Earth as it is in Heaven, not ours.  Ours is nailed to that cross.

Our world uses every single form of seduction to get us to embrace what we "deserve" and what all isn't so bad.  Things that we supposedly "earned".

We earned, deserved, the punishment for our own sins.  We came to Christ and His righteousness was imputed to us.  In response, we're to live for Jesus.

So, my Dear Reader, what reasons do you consider when you do life?  What is important to you?  Are you more concerned at personal embarrassment in living life for Jesus than you are at doing so?  Are you afraid of losing your position and your place in society?  Is living a life that is as God honoring as you can do feeling like it's a huge burden?

Are you at all looking to hear "Well done!" from Jesus?

So what that you might "miss out" on this thing or that thing.  If Jesus decided that today you were going to be with Him, would that matter?

What if Jesus appeared to you and asked you to spend today with Him, would you just clear your schedule or ask Him dumb questions like:  For how long? Where are we going?  Or would you just go with Jesus?  Would you really care about what you missed in this day if that's who wanted to spend the day with you?  Would excuses, reasons, pour from your lips?

Truth is...Jesus does want to spend today with you.
Truth is...you need to decide if He does or doesn't.
Truth is...will you?

Ever Ready

Ever Ready
by David Brenneman

"Be ready, servant of Christ, for your Master will come suddenly, when an ungodly world least expects Him. See to it that you are faithful in His work, for the grave will soon be dug for you. Be ready, parents—see that your children are brought up in the fear of God, for they will soon be orphans. Be ready, businesspeople — take care that your affairs are correct and that you serve God with all your hearts, for the days of your earthly service will soon end and you will be called to give account for “the things done while in the body, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). May we all prepare for the great King’s court hearing with special attention, a care that will be rewarded with the gracious commendation, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21). - C.H. Spurgeon Morning and Evening.

A new book is coming out from Dr. David Jeremiah that is about being ready for the return of Jesus Christ for His Church.  This has actually always been on my mind for many decades.  In fact, at every company that I work for that has me using a computer, there's a file that I leave on the desktop.  It explains what has happened should there be this mass disappearance while I am there. I believe not only in the risen Savior, I firmly believe He's coming back to receive His Church to Himself, myself included.

The only pertinent question, my Dear Friend, is do you know Him?  A very popular preacher's sermon says much to this question. S.M Lockridge had this to say:

My King was born King.
The Bible says He’s a Seven Way King.
He’s the King of the Jews
He’s the King of Israel
He’s the King of righteousness.
He’s the King of the ages.
He’s the King of Heaven.
He’s the King of glory.
He’s the King of kings and He is the Lord of lords.
Now that’s my King.
Well I wonder if you know Him. Do you know Him?
Well, well, He’s enduringly strong.
He’s entirely sincere.
He’s eternally steadfast.
He’s immortally graceful.
He’s imperially powerful.
He’s impartially merciful.
That’s my King.
He’s God’s Son.
He’s the sinner’s saviour.
He’s the centrepiece of civilization.
He stands alone in Himself.
He’s honest.
He’s unique.
He’s unparalleled.
He’s unprecedented.
He’s supreme.
He’s pre-eminent.
Well, He’s the grandest idea in literature.
He’s the highest personality in philosophy.
He’s the supreme problem in high criticism.
He’s the fundamental doctrine of proved theology.
He’s the cardinal necessity of spiritual religion.
That’s my King.

That's just an excerpt of his sermon...but you get the point?  Jesus isn't who we say Jesus is.  Jesus is who the Spirit says He is.  Jesus is the Mediator between God and mankind.  Jesus is a man of His word.  Jesus is...coming again.

Jesus said...and it was.  Jesus thought...and so it came to be.  Jesus planned and it happened without deviation.  The Father’s will was completed in Him.  The work on the cross finished it.  Jesus promised to return on that day set by His Father.  He promised who have been in His Church from day one until His eventual return that He would never leave them nor forsake them.

In Romans, Paul, through the Spirit, had this to say: "But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;  for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:8-13 NASB

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again and will take you to Myself, so that where I am, there you also will be." John 14:3.

Jesus has always been the promise maker and the promise keeper.   My Dear Reader, are you really ready?

What will your life show?  Will it show a life that was wholly devoted to Him?  Will it show one where you honestly lived for your own desires?

Will you be left behind?  That is the crucial question.  All that remains between this very moment and the Rapture of the Church is that last single person who hasn't said yes to the free gift of salvation.  My firm belief is that it will be like bookends.   The thief on the cross was the first, he was told by Jesus that he would be with Him in paradise.  The man wasn't baptized, never heard a sermon. Never attended a service. Never participated in a single Bible study.  My belief is the last person who will be saved,  that is the hallmark of that day set by the Father’s own understanding, will be much the same.  I wouldn't at all be surprised if he or she were a death row inmate.  Someone already condemned to die and their sentence was being carried out.  Their decision to come to Christ will be just as silent as that thief.

You will not see any fanfare. No fireworks. No Hollywood gala event.  No CNN, Fox News, or anything else proclaiming the return of Jesus Christ for His Church.

The Bible simply says that it will be in the twinkling of an eye.   How fast is that?  Faster than the speed of light.  A blink of an eye is slower.

Nobody will see it coming.

It's why Jesus said to be ready for had the man of the house known at what hour the thief was coming he would not have let his house be broken into.   He repeated the statement to be ready.

This was taught often at the beginning of the Church.  Satan had twisted it quickly to get some to try to proclaim that it had already happened.

Are you indeed ready?  If indeed you are saved, is your life showing the world that you are?  Are you growing in Christ as of first importance to you?  Are there things in your life that need to go?

If you haven't received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, what's holding you back?   Jesus said to come as a child.  The question and the belief are simple enough for a child to understand it.  Come as you are.  Jesus will take care of the rest. That's another promise of His to you.  You don't need to fix up your life first. You don't neec to quit this or start that first.  Just come to Jesus.

My life has all kinds of things in it that I wish had never happened.  Things that my shame still impacts me today.  All has been forgiven by my Savior, Jesus Christ.

Maybe today's your day to just come back to Jesus.  You're tired of living life your way and it's not been working.  He says He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  Believe Him.

Come to Jesus all you who are weak and heavy laden and He will give you rest.

What Life is and Isn't

What Life is and Isn't
by David Brenneman

Life isn't what you can get out of it...although the world would have you think otherwise.

Life, until either we go home to be with Jesus -if we're saved- is to be lived in appreciation for all He's done for us.  Life's meant to be more abundant for those who are now Children of God.  "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." John 10:10.

Those outside of the family of God cannot understand the things of God.  "But a natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned." 1 Corinthians 2:14.

We are both easily deceived and live in a very deceived world. Without a doubt the Spirit is very busy in the area of teaching followers of Christ Jesus in how to live life.

But are you seeking to know, seeking to understand the things of God?  Where do your passions lie?  What gets you excited?  Honestly, if it's anything of this world more than something you have been learning from God, through His Spirit, then you really need to take a step back.

For me, recognizing stumbling blocks, as the Bible calls them, has been a very important part of living for Jesus.  Removing things that were consuming my time that could have been time better spent.  There are things that I used to do that I just don't anymore because of the work of the Spirit in me.

When we grow up in the physical world we soon realize the necessity of "taking life seriously", that is, to start considering a vocation, a place to live, paying taxes, caring for a home, a car etc.  In growing in Christ, we need to realize the need to grow up too.

"When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things." 1 Corinthians 13:11.

The children of Israel in Deuteronomy were given the 10 Commandments.  Jesus was asked what were the greatest Commandments.  As more than a few have stated, the two that Jesus said were a summation of all 10. So no, there's no portion we can invalidate.  Jesus said we're to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and spirit and to love your neighbor as yourself.

What do you fill your mind with?  Statistics on things of this world or on the wisdom of the Word of God?  I honestly find it an uphill battle to memorize Scripture. Worldly information isn't nearly so difficult to memorize.  It's been 40 years and I can still tell anyone how to setup a MS-DOS computer.  Step by step.  Science fiction books.  Have way too many memorized from my younger days.  In layman's terms, your brain can be a horrific episode of Hoarders.  So much junk stuffed in it that you can't discern right from wrong, truth from error.

My practice of recent months is to push myself to be in my Bible more.  To pray more.  I still have struggles but I still press on.  In Christ I can do this.  As Jesus said apart from Me you can do nothing.  A vine can only work with what it's supplied.  We are supposed to be branches in the vine of Christ.

What have you been allowing to take up your time?  The world is going to demand much of your time, but you can still push back to give your best to your Savior.

Beware of anyone or anything that lays claim to convince you that you deserve this or that in this world.  We deserve what Jesus went through on the cross.  He died and arose again in our place.

Proverbs is for sure a book that needs read more and more.  A chapter a day in addition to whatever else you may read in your Bible.  In it we read of true wisdom and knowledge of God.

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.  Our priorities must begin with whatever is important to Jesus.

What We Cannot See

What We Cannot See
by David Brenneman

Began reading in Deuteronomy in the last few days with the Bible reading plan that I am using.  Saw something that I believe that I have missed before in my reading.

Moses spoke to the children of Israel in what they must do to the inhabitants of the lands that the Lord Jesus Christ was giving them.  No human beings of any age were to survive.  To make no pacts with any of those people because they would become a snare to them.  On the surface this seems rather extreme, but it's but not even a pin dot on the surface of history.

We cannot know what only God knows about every single ramification of choice.

Something that we actually read within the very long, very extensive, list that Moses read to them...the ramifications of choice.

Now turn that around.  I really just now see what would have happened had Moses been allowed to cross over with the children of Israel into the Promised Land.  Things we read in history today wouldn't have happened in the same way.

We read in the Gospels of how at the right time, Jesus Christ was born.  The right time in that moment was a culmination of every single life that made decisions, made choices that lead up to that moment.

There's no shortage of fiction writers in regards to alternative universes.  People writing on what would the world be like today had a single event been different.

For one, in this particular book of Deuteronomy...large portions wouldn't have been written.  Moses would not have written them as we see them at a minimum.  The people wouldn't have felt anything to their hearts because of the Lord’s reaction to the sin of Moses.

We always want something better, want this vs that.  We either learn from mistakes or we don't.  We turn left vs right.  Choice is ever before us.

We choose to sin or choose to repent of sin.

Moses, as we do see even into Jesus's days...had impacted the Jewish people deeply, either in a right way or a wrong way...but the influence was still there.

Jesus knows every single outcome of every single decision that every single person has ever had thought to make...for all of human history.   Think about it!  He knew exactly what would have been different had he relented and permitted Moses to go with them.  Even without going, the predicted falling away of the people from the words he spoke came to fruition.  Had he gone, would it have been different?  Possibly.  But consider this passage that the Spirit had Paul write.

"And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28.

And add in this from King Solomon.

"I, the Preacher, have been king over Israel in Jerusalem. And I set my mind to seek and explore by wisdom concerning all that has been done under heaven. It is a grievous task which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with. I have seen all the works which have been done under the sun, and behold, all is vanity and striving after wind." Ecclesiastes 1:12-14.

Had even a single person not been in the place in history where they needed to be...history wouldn't unfold as it needed to.  Why the part from King Solomon?  We keep on thinking we know how to create a better way of life.  We must realize and understand that it is God who causes all things to work towards a single endgame.  The final judgment.

We who are in Christ have a responsibility to learn from the Spirit what the will of God is for us and to live it out.

In my worldly pursuits, I am an amateur inventor.   Seeing various things in my world and I try to create things to improve my life and maybe by extension others lives.   On various occasions, I know that I have been stopped from pursuing some because of single reason.  God told me not to...because it would alter the world in ways He doesn't want to have happen.  In His divine reasons some things should not be permitted to happen in history because there IS a day, fixed by the Father’s own choice, regarding the Day of the Lord.  History is unfolding every day.  It may look like chaos to an outside observer.  But to the Creator of the Universe...it's going to unfold as it must.

We aren't here to be creators.   We are here to be obeyer's of the Word of God.  Time and again, the children of Israel didn't.  The consequences followed.  For those of us in Christ, we will be forgiven, but we might still face consequences.

You, my Dear Reader, may feel insignificant in the scheme of things.

But realize you have an important part in God's scheme of things.  We will not know how we impacted the lives of others until we are with Jesus.  Only He will be able to shed light on why your place in His history of mankind was where it was.   Just as it was exactly the right time for Jesus to be born of a virgin, in a stable of all places,  you were born at the right time.   Your life has meaning in His wonderful plan.   You have the ability to participate through your obedience or your disobedience.

The choice is certainly yours.  Choice came from the cross of Jesus Christ.  Jesus chose to obey His Father rather than His own desires.

What will you do?

Depends on Us?

Depends on Us?
by David Brenneman

"Sing for joy in the Lord, O you righteous ones; Praise is becoming to the upright. Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre; Sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. For the word of the Lord is upright, And all His work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the lovingkindness of the Lord. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The Lord nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation. Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance. The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men; From His dwelling place He looks out On all the inhabitants of the earth, He who fashions the hearts of them all, He who understands all their works. The king is not saved by a mighty army; A warrior is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a false hope for victory; Nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness, To deliver their soul from death And to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, According as we have hoped in You."
Psalms 33:1‭-‬22

That last portion of verse 22...wow.  His lovingkindness is proportional to our hope in Him?

Think about how deeply you are trusting and hoping in your relationship with Jesus.  We oftentimes wonder why we go through the things we do in life, and most probably have never considered the truth of what that verse 22 is saying.

Truth be known, most probably never have seen that verse.   I have lost count of how many times I have read through my Bible and until this moment didn't know about it.

Start at the beginning...praise is becoming of the upright.  Is becoming in this case means its appropriate, it's of chief value. it's the RIGHT thing to do.

What is the definition of upright?  All the ways and works of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Whether you understand what He's doing or not, His ways are better, higher, and more effective and important than our lifetime of understanding.

"For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The Lord nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart from generation to generation." Nothing on Earth nor in the Heavens, anywhere at any time, will cause a single thing of our Savior's plans to be thwarted.  All the powers of Satan could not stop Jesus from returning from the dead.  Some songs call that "All the powers of Hell" and that is a deception.  God created Hell for Satan and his minions as a PUNISHMENT.  It isn't any place that any demon wants to be because once there they cannot leave until the day of the final judgment of Jesus as we read near the end of the book of Revelation.  Every demon fears Hell.

"He who fashions the hearts of them all, He who understands all their works."

He knows your heart and knows your every single thought in all its myriads of ways.  In Christ Jesus, the Spirit is working in and through all who are Christians to have the Church of Jesus Christ be what it needs to be.  Individually each is a work in progress.  Each part of the body of Christ has a special and unique function. Yes, even you.

"Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, According as we have hoped in You."

Does your soul wait on the Lord?
Does your heart rejoice in Him?
Do you really trust in Him?

That last portion...according to as we have hoped in you...wow.

To the degree we have hoped in You, Lord Jesus.  What a profound thought!

The deeper we hope the more His lovingkindness is revealed to us and is found in us.  The world will think you're crazy in obeying in this.  The world doesn't see the depths of the depravity they are in.   They cannot understand the things of God because they are foreign them because they are spiritually discerned.  Paul wrote that a long time ago and when you apply that single verse to the thousand or so people in the Bible it's revealed as an absolute truth then, as well as is seen as an absolute truth now.

We're to be a light in this world to show people where to find the Savior, who is Christ Jesus.  Our eyes only see spiritual things because the Spirit opens them.  Our obedience brings more to our minds and hearts than we ever thought possible.

Our personal happiness is not paramount in this life.  Our obedience and our level of hope in Christ Jesus are what grows us in Christ to be the best we can be in the body of Christ.  Forget denominations, these are Earthly constructs of men.  The universal Church is that of Jesus Christ's vision and of the Spirit's direction.  Forget which version of the Bible is better than others.  That which fits your hearts needs is what works for you, as long as it is the complete 66 books of the Old Testament and New Testament.  There's no sense in owning a Bible that you're having difficulty understanding if indeed you are saved.  Nobody has a right to tell you that you must use a specific version.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding and in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.   Ask the Spirit to help you understand the Word that was written by Him.

"For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, According as we have hoped in You."

- "Be Still and Know" Steven Curtis Chapman 1999

One of the lessons that Dr. Charles Stanley taught had to do with praying in silence.  Finding a good place to pray, open in prayer, then wait on the Lord Jesus.  It's not that difficult on the surface but can be if you're not used to it.

We're anxious in some degree all the time.  It shows in our impatience.  Which is a part of everyone's life.  A minute and a half in a microwave is too long to wait for some.   A 2 minute wait at a stop light drives some people crazy, some to petition to replace it with a roundabout.  We are a society that doesn't want to hear that we must wait.

"Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary." Isaiah 40:31.

Many who have rejected Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior have done so because of impatience.  They've set conditions on their belief and when they weren't met in their time frame, they gave up and refused anything further.

Many in the faith grow impatient and are not experiencing inner peace due to a lack of persistence in prayer.  A person often goes to a doctor because they aren't well or are attempting to "get healthy" and reluctantly they take whatever pills, whatever is said for therapy.  Yet many more won't listen to the Great Physician and seek a healthy Spiritual life.

In many psychological circles getting away to some place quiet is a recognized recommendation to achieving peace.  This isn't some original 20th century idea.  Biblically it's throughout the Scriptures.

Adam and Eve sought time with Jesus after the fall, but due to sin, this was complicated.  Many many examples are throughout the Bible on those who dramatically benefited from time alone with Jesus.

Lauren Daigle had a song out called "Peace Be Still"

I don't want to be afraid
Every time I face the waves
I don't want to be afraid
I don't want to be afraid
I don't want to fear the storm
Just because I hear it roar
I don't want to fear the storm
I don't want to fear the storm
Peace be still
Say the word and I will
Set my feet upon the sea
Till I'm dancing in the deep
Peace be still
You are here so it is well
Even when my eyes can't see
I will trust the voice that speaks
I'm not gonna be afraid
'Cause these waves are only waves
I'm not gonna be afraid
I'm not gonna be afraid
I'm not gonna fear the storm
You are greater than it's roar
I'm not gonna fear the storm
I'm not gonna fear at all
Peace be still
Say the word and I will
Set my feet upon the sea
Till I'm dancing in the deep
Peace be still
You are here so it is well
Even when my eyes can't see
I will trust the voice that speaks
Peace peace over me.

When you're in a hospital, the whole environment is considered when healing is the goal.  Keeping patients calm is a key even as much as the medication and doctors care.  A recurring thought even through television shows such as post-op in M*A*S*H were to keep those there calm so that they could heal.

Do you really consider this?  Do you intentionally have a place of silence and solitude to be with Jesus?  Do you ever consider the truth that He DOES speak to His sheep?   Don't for a second believe otherwise, no matter who says it, that He doesn't speak to you.

What did Jesus say on this subject?

"Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me. But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.” John 10:25‭-‬30.

Moses often spoke with Jesus face-to-face.  King David sat and talked with Jesus.  King Solomon had as well.

When we came to Christ, we received a blanket request to come often to the Throne of God.

To many, they don't realize they are starving Spiritually because they haven't come to Christ in prayer.

Another passage says that the fervent prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.   Fervent means persistent, constant.  It also implies a solid faith that the prayer isn't in vain.  That the assurance is there within this righteous man or woman that there IS one on the other end of the prayer who listens.

Being still...it's not really easy for me.  Probably not for you either.   I am just as impatient at times.  But silence and solitude?  I love it at the right times.  These blog posts happen during my silent and solitude moments.  Each evening before bed, I have been intentionally spending time with Jesus in more Bible studies and reading.  The Bible says what goes into your heart comes out your mouth.  So put something good into it.  Jesus was the one who said those things.

Prayer ought to be like breathing.  Being tempted to do it yourself is always dangling before you.

As someone coined the phrase "I know not what comes tomorrow, but I know who holds tomorrow in His hands".

Believe me the one key thing that Satan does not want you to do is to spend time with Jesus, to read and think about His word.  He does not want you to slow down and find that peace that Jesus promised to provide you.  He wants you so distraught and distracted that prayer and time alone with Jesus is the last thing you would ever consider as beneficial.

Be still and know that He is God
Be still and know that He is holyBe still, oh, restless soul of mineBow before the Prince of PeaceLet the noise and clamour cease

More than We Can Handle

More than We Can Handle
by David Brenneman

Ever wake up mentally sore?  Instantly remembering yesterday's battles?  This has been me of late.  I know what it's connected to, just am trying through God's provision to get through it.

It's not easy standing firm, standing your ground, in your faith in Christ Jesus.  This blog is spreading at an incredible pace.  God's doing it, not me.  He brings you, my Dear Reader, to find it.  God's enemy, Satan, doesn't like it when anyone is pointing people to Jesus.

Paul knew with all certainly of having troubles without end.   Anxiety was something he dealt with almost daily.

"To my shame I must say that we have been weak by comparison. But in whatever respect anyone else is bold—I speak in foolishness—I am just as bold myself. Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I. Are they servants of Christ?—I speak as if insane—I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death. Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep. I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren; I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches. Who is weak without my being weak? Who is led into sin without my intense concern?" 2 Corinthians 11:21-29.

Yes, it even was he who penned "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7.

"Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11.

And let us not forget "Bear one another's burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ." Galatians 6:2.

Paul knew many sorrows, many anxious nights and days.  Knew the same things that we go through daily.  Knew how to combat it, but still endured it.

In all reality, if we could 'handle' life, we wouldn't be in such need to comfort others with the same comfort we received ourselves.  2 Corinthians 1:4 "who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."

There's that word again. Affliction.

We aren't going to escape afflictions in living life for Jesus. He told us up front to expect them.

Paul often compared life to that of a soldier.  All training that a soldier receives is technically affliction.  It's a heavy burden. It's rough.  It's complicated. It's difficult. It pushes us to extremes we do not desire.

My life right now is this way.

It certainly feels like more than I can handle.  It certainly is rough. It is complicated.  I am waiting on the Lord Jesus to provide the way of escape for me.  In this I would covet your prayers.  I often feel like work is becoming a lion's den.  My faith is being challenged.  I have a Supervisor who certainly does not understand the things of God because they are indeed foreign to him, because they are spiritually discerned.  His wisdom certainly is of this world and not of God.

Indeed life is more than I can handle on my own.  I am being pressured into things at work that, for an introvert like myself, is too much to cope with.

But as Paul also says "God is faithful..."

He knew as much as I do, that God was indeed with him.  His human side still struggled with the things that were for him to live through.  Jesus told Ananias that Paul would be shown how much he would suffer.

I have told many that the passage that says "Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight." in Proverbs 3:5-6, means we must be moving forward for Him to direct one's steps.  He can't guide feet that aren't moving.

I, to say the least, am not a happy camper.  I would much rather avoid confrontations.  Would much rather not go through what all that I am going through.  People that I work for tout building trust yet aren't doing anything to get to know people in the real sense of the word.  Are not showing trust by believing them about things.

"Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them." Hebrews 7:25.

So drawing near to Jesus in prayer is what I am doing.  If no one else bears my burdens, I know that He will.  If no one else listens, He will. "Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21.

He certainly was from God

He certainly was from God
by David Brenneman

"So a second time they called the man who had been blind, and said to him, “Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.” He then answered, “Whether He is a sinner, I do not know; one thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see.” So they said to him, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?” He answered them, “I told you already and you did not listen; why do you want to hear it again? You do not want to become His disciples too, do you?” They reviled him and said, “You are His disciple, but we are disciples of Moses. We know that God has spoken to Moses, but as for this man, we do not know where He is from.” The man answered and said to them, “Well, here is an amazing thing, that you do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes. We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him. Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.” They answered him, “You were born entirely in sins, and are you teaching us?” So they put him out. Jesus heard that they had put him out, and finding him, He said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?” Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him, and He is the one who is talking with you.” And he said, “Lord, I believe.” And he worshiped Him. And Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind.” Those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and said to Him, “We are not blind too, are we?” Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, ‘We see,’ your sin remains.
John 9:24‭-‬41.

Oh that boldness of the healed man!  He easily was an adult in age.  Truly was a shame that his own parents feared the Pharisees that much.  But I love that verse..."The man answered and said to them, “Well, here is an amazing thing, that you do not know where He is from, and yet He opened my eyes. We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him. Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. If this man were not from God, He could do nothing.”

It's very saddening to hear of those who so easily dismiss the works of God in the world today.   Calling such things coincidences.

What's been funny to me is hearing even the unbelieving stumble over what they know is wrong yet because current culture says something is acceptable when clearly God's Word says otherwise...they can't handle it.  They really want to agree with the Biblical viewpoint but are more afraid of lawsuits than God, which certainly isn't funny at all.

"All it takes for evil to triumph in the world is for good men to do nothing" is a very popular quote.

Jesus certainly was from God and by many countless- actually -signs and wonders, He proved it.

Even today so many millions of people are just like these Pharisees and Sadducees.  Seeing the truth yet not seeing.  Hearing yet not hearing.

It's a daily occurrence for me.  To run into those who are so close yet so far away from the truth of God's word.   What's worse by far is the same kind of silencing of people because of veiled threats is still in today's society.  If you don't show by actions and words that you're supporting what God's Word says is sin, you're now the enemy.

"But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these." 2 Timothy 3:1‭-‬5.

Jesus said that these kinds of people would be those we would run into.  He had Paul teach those in the Church to stand firm.  Many times those were the words said.  To stand firm.   Here in this story of that healed man, we see several examples of standing firm.  The healed man stood firm and was rewarded by being able to meet Jesus face-to-face and to worship Him.  Jesus stood firm and exposed these leaders of the people.

We're going to face opposition.  I certainly do in my workplace...as I have in most every place I have worked.  Those living in sin are not allowed to be offended, but those who live in Christ must accept being offended.  This is a most destructive way of life.

"Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm." Ephesians 6:13.

Standing firm isn't a leisure stance.
Standing firm is a stance of war.
Standing firm, you're suited up, shield shined and oiled, sword drawn and in the ready-ready position. Helmet straps tight.  The stance is one that says "This far and no farther!" a stance that's ready to advance on the enemy. You aren't playing dress-up in that Ephesians 6 armor!  You're not going through various things in your life for Jesus just to give you something to do.  Each small battle is to prepare for the bigger ones.  Standing firm.

Jesus certainly was from God.  I would certainly say that this healed man became a follower of Jesus.  Jesus, and I would say this because it wasn't written, didn't tell this man to go and sin no more.

Did you notice that the Pharisees said nothing when this man immediately worshiped Jesus?  I can see Jesus smiling when He revealed Himself...can see His sadness at what He said to those Pharisees next.

It's not easy to stand firm...to dig in my position.  Not everyone is going to agree with you in doing so.   This man’s parents were afraid to do so.

I will always rather stand with God and be judged by the world than to stand with the world and be judged by God.

We're not going to suit up in the whole armor of God just to walk around an hope we're not noticed by the Devil.   He certainly will see and know what's going on.  He will certainly try to get us to change our way of thinking.  Will try to get us to put down what defenses we have. To convince us that things aren't that bad.

Sin is what Jesus died for.  The sins of the world, in all human history, were heaped upon Jesus.  Jesus stayed on the cross because of His love for humanity.  He could have come down at any time.  He stood firm and salvation came as a result.
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything.

"Stand up, stand up for Jesus
ye soldiers of the cross;
lift high his royal banner,
it must not suffer loss.
From vict'ry unto vict'ry
his army he shall lead
till ev'ry foe is vanquished
and Christ is Lord indeed.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the trumpet call obey;
forth to the mighty conflict
in this his glorious day.
Ye that are men now serve him
against unnumbered foes;
let courage rise with danger
and strength to strength oppose.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
stand in his strength alone;
the arm of flesh will fail you,
ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the gospel armor,
each piece put on with prayer;
where duty calls or danger,
be never wanting there.

Stand up, stand up for Jesus,
the strife will not be long;
this day the noise of battle,
the next, the victor's song.
To him that overcometh
a crown of life shall be;
he with the King of glory
shall reign eternally."
- 'Stand up, stand up, for Jesus, Ye soldiers of the cross'. Author: George Duffield (1858)

In the Midst of Battles

In the Midst of Battles
by David Brenneman

It's not always easy to remember God's truth about life above our perception of life.  Life can and often does hurt.  Emotionally, physically, and Spiritually.

Sometimes we're fighting battles in our minds that He's already won.  We turn arguments over and over again in our minds of things that either won't happen or have only the slightest risk of happening.

We often do indeed lean on our own understanding first rather than the Lord.  We are prone to the "do it yourself" mentality before we consider going to God.

Lately it's been on my mind about sheep.
Jesus said His sheep hear His voice.  Sheep can be very talkative.  But sheep also learn who their Shepherd is by listening.  It's more than the association of the Shepherd feeding them.  Our Shepherd goes way beyond what a normal hired Shepherd does.  Hired ones do not lay down their own life for the sheep. Jesus said this is exactly what He did for us.

My own conversational prayers on my way to work each morning are whatever is on my heart and mind.  Doesn't matter what's on my mind, I speak it out loud.  Satan probably hates those times of the day and I certainly am good with that.

Getting familiar with praying and prayer is what we all ought to be doing.  We are in an intimate relationship with Jesus if indeed we are saved after all.  He hears our prayers instantly and is indeed working all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

Sheep who indeed have learned of the true caring of their Shepherd believe their Shepherd.  Jesus said He is the Good Shepherd.   We need to trust Him more and believe more when we pray.

Trust and Obey is an apt song to describe the relationship between a sheep and the Good Shepherd.

Oftentimes field commanders in times of war re-enact former battles to prepare for the next one.  In today's parlance the sports world calls it the game tape.  Reviewing former opponents to learn how to win the next time.

Our time on Earth is very finite.  Making the most of every single opportunity is really important.   Satan's made an excellent industry in keeping people from making the most of every opportunity.  He began with Adam and Eve in convincing humanity of things that they've earned or that they deserve.  This too is a battle in our minds.  It's as old as history itself when you really consider it.  Advertising everywhere is about getting you to do something for yourself...an intentional way to distract you from God's purposes.

There is a parable of a sheep that left a fold, and the Shepherd who left the 99 to go to look for it.  Really think about it.  What got the 1 sheep’s attention to wander away from the protection and provision of it's Shepherd?  What does it take to get you to wander away from the protection and provision of your Shepherd?  Reality is sheep can do this all the time.  What reality you probably don't know is that the Shepherd, upon finding the sheep, breaks the leg of the sheep.  Causing the sheep to learn from what it did and to fully lean on its Shepherd.  We oftentimes go through things to come back to Jesus that hurt.  It often is very deep and personal.   It's no coincidence that it's the same lesson.

Sometimes our battles in our minds just don't need to be taking place.   Yes, we ought to use skill, wisdom, in what we do in life, and preparation is a good thing.  However, we ought not to overdo it.  Preparation for what God's already prepared for isn't good.

That song that I have referred to before, "There's peace that outlasts darkness
Hope thats in the blood
There's future grace thats mine today
That Jesus Christ has won
So I can face tomorrow
For tomorrow's in Your hands
All I need you will provide
Just like you always have

I'm fighting a battle
That you've already won
No matter what comes my way
I will overcome
I don't know what your doing
But I know what you've done
I'm fighting a battle that
You've already won"
- "You've Already Won" by Shane and Shane.

Our own understanding gets us into so much trouble.

When we walk with the Lord, in the light of His word, what a glory he sheds on our way. While we do his good will, he abides with us still, never fear only trust and obey.

In the midst of our battles, remembering that He's already won is crucial.  Remembering that we're not alone is vital.
Praying listening is as important as praying speaking.  Not wasting time on frivolous things that you know God's not wanting for you is essential.  Our first priority is what the Spirit wants for us, not what we want.  As in Jesus's example in regards to the cross. What the Father wills, not His own will be done.

Are you walking in a manner worthy of your calling in Christ Jesus?  Not just sometimes?   The music you listen to, the recreational things that you participate in, the times you're alone, do these things help your relationship with Jesus?   Do they reflect a right relationship with Jesus?  As an example that is Scripturally relevant...what proceeds out of your mouth comes from your heart.   What's in there?  What are you feeding it?  Is your heart Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired?  What proceeds out of your mouth reflects the state of your heart.

Pray at all times the Bible says.  It's a relationship that's to be continuous.  Not repetitious.  Not a droning of words over and over with no heart behind them.  Mean it when you pray it is what the Spirit teaches.  It's what God wants.

We are to consider it all joy when we experience various trials.  It's for our good.  Growing us in Christ.  Causing us to stay close to our Good Shepherd.
