Psalms 70
1 O God, hasten to deliver me;
O Lord, hasten to my help!
2 Let those be ashamed and humiliated
Who seek my life;
Let those be turned back and dishonored
Who delight in my hurt.
3 Let those be turned back because of their shame Who say, “Aha, aha!”
4 Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; And let those who love Your salvation say continually, “Let God be magnified.”
5 But I am afflicted and needy;
Hasten to me, O God!
You are my help and my deliverer;
O Lord, do not delay.
How often have I prayed this without knowing it? My life has certainly been a roller coaster. Ups and downs, squeezed between the rocks. Torrents and downpours. Yet in everything and in every way My God has never left me.
Sure He may be silent, but never absent.
How often have we comforted someone just by being there rather than by speaking?
How often has someone been comforted to know that they aren't the only ones who have gone through what they are?
We tend to be ingrown when it comes to suffering. An intense focus on self arises. The world could wear away and we wouldn't care. Our immediate need is ourselves. Well there might be a divine reason for that. When all is stripped away, when there's nothing between us and God, then there's nothing to hinder real communication and a real relationship.
This world is full of distractions and self help cures. Ever minute a new study is released citing a new way to heal something or fix this or that.
Truth is THE healer is God. The most incredible cures have happened when people drop everything but God in their lives. Doctors can't explain the kinds of cures that only God can do.
Truth is Jesus is available to you 24/7. 365. No waiting. Let go of the worries of this life. Things are not important. Not one person ever took their things with them in death. Nobody. Which tells you a lot about what God thinks about earthly things. The only thing that goes with you in death is your actions. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, your sins don't follow you. He has thrown them as far as the east is from the west. If not every sin you ever did is with you. All your relationships today shape who you are. How is a seed developed into a prize winning fruit tree? By the relationship between the seed and the grower and God. The grower carefully tends to it, nurtures it. But even the grower knows that only God can cause the growth. Even watching the tree in storms as well as in sunshine. A tree never grows tall and strong without storms. It cracks, creaks and bends but doesn't go down because God is developing its roots. Making it depend more upon Him than it did before. The result is a beauty that doesn't compare.
Many of the greatest life changing times in my life are rooted in the essence of that Psalm. Read it. Pray it. Let God do what only He can.
